Douro Valley immersive wine tour

“A beautiful day in the Douro Valley we will never forget Alfredo from the beginning was patient responsive, respectful and full of ideas on how to structure a day as we had a condensed timeframe of only 8 to make our ship’s departure. We started as 6-7 but in the end had 15 people after other friends found out what we were doing while in Porto. He picked us right up at our ship and we began our journey to the beautiful Douro Valley in a smaller comfortable bus. We started at a smaller newer winery venture of Vieira de Sousa and wow everyone was surprised by how good their whites were and LOVED their ports and I have a case enroute to my home in the US as well as do others! We were alone in their gorgeous tasting room over a hundred years old and perfectly refurbished . Two amazing sisters started this beautiful winery and the day was off to a great start. Next we went to the stunning property of Quinta de Pacheca which is just an amazing larger property with large wine barrel rooms you can stay overnight in, yes that’s right. Here we were escorted to a private dining room and started with a tasting followed by a phenomenal lunch with more wine pairings!! The hosts were amazing! Let’s just say we bought multiple cases in our group here. We also picked up a few bottles for our next private boat ride on the Douro River- it was breathtaking! This was stated by many in our group to be the best excursion of our 10-day cruise and memories we will cherish for a lifetime! “Best Private Wine Tour there is! Our private wine tour of the Douro Valley with Alfredo was the highlight of our trip! We were picked up at our hotel and transported with care into a day filled with magical moments! Not only is Alfredo knowledgeable about the beautiful area and the wine grown there, he delighted us with historical facts, humor, and a shared interest in music! Our first stop at Casa do Romezal was a beautiful start to our day. The owner Luis was filled with infectious enthusiasm for the area and the wines his family is blessed to produce there over many generations. His genuine love of the land and his heritage are evident in all he says and does. His wine and olive oil selections were as impressive and the estate the produces them. We loved them so much; we had some shipped home. The ordering and shipping process were easy and effortless! Because we were surprised to like Port so much, Alfredo made an unplanned stop at a nearby Port maker so that we could try Vintage and Late Bottled Vintage ports. It was an incredible experience! After a beautiful drive filled with stunning views, Alfredo took us to an incredible farm to table lunch at Cais da Ferradosa. Our multi-course meal of all locally sourced ingredients was paired with exquisite wines. It was at this meal that I learned to love port and tonic! Our food was flavorful, beautiful, and thoughtfully presented and prepared. This family-owned operation provided us with a five star experience and an amazing view! To complete our day, we were treated to a tasting of stunning selection of wines at small privately owned vineyard and hotel. This ideally located vineyard and hotel offered such an intimate experience with sweeping views of the Douro Valley. I kept thinking what a remarkable venue it would be for a destination wedding! All in all, our day was simply perfect. If you are looking for a personally curated tour away from crowds and cookie cutter itineraries, look no further!”
